Walking the path of sensitivity and fire — living as a highly sensitive, high sensation-seeking woman
My Story
Video coming soon — where I share how A Balanced Life began, the dual wiring that shaped my life, and the journey toward balance and trust in my own rhythms.
Hi, I’m Jocelyn
I’ve always lived with two strong forces inside me — sensitivity that takes in the world deeply, and a fire that pulls me into movement, ideas, and momentum. For years I didn’t know how to hold both. It left me overwhelmed, burnt out, and unsure what was “wrong” with me.
A Balanced Life began when I realised nothing was wrong at all — I was simply dual-wired, and in need of a rhythm that honoured both sides.
Understanding the Dual Wiring Behind My Work with Highly Sensitive, High Sensation-Seeking Women
You may not know this about yourself yet — or you may know it deeply — but some of us are born with a nervous system that runs two parallel circuits.
We feel everything (the sensitivity).
And we burn bright (the fire).
For years, I tried to quiet one and amplify the other, thinking that would bring balance. It never did. What finally brought steadiness was learning how these two energies belong together — how they shape the way I move, sense, think, create, respond, and restore.
This “dual wiring” is the foundation of A Balanced Life.
It’s why I write the way I do, why I walk the way I do, and why my work centres on rhythm rather than rules.
If you’ve ever felt “too much” and “not enough” at the same time, you may be wired this way, too.
You’re not broken.
Nothing about you is wrong.
You just haven’t been given the map yet.
Your starting point for building steadier energy and nervous system clarity.
Seeds of A Balanced Life
A Balanced Life didn’t begin as a program or a framework.
It began as a survival strategy — small practices I leaned on during years of overwhelm, responsibility, and the push–pull of my dual wiring.
Little by little, those nervous system practices became rhythms.
The rhythms became steadiness.
And the steadiness became a way of living that felt like me — not the me I thought I “should” be, but the one who had been there all along.
As I found my footing, people around me began asking how I was navigating life with a little more calm, a little more clarity, and a lot more energy. The seeds of A Balanced Life took root in those conversations: simple shifts, nature-led practices, and a return to what nourishes us from the inside out.
These rhythms became the foundation for how I now support highly sensitive, high sensation seeking women who are trying to build a steadier life without losing their spark.
Everything I share now is born from that place — lived experience, curiosity, and a deep belief that balance isn’t found through forcing or striving.
Balance grows quietly, through small choices that honour who we truly are.
When High Sensitivity and High Sensation Seeking Collided
“The Turning Point”
For years, I lived in the boom–bust cycle so many sensitive, high-achieving women know well. I pushed hard, recovered just enough to keep going, then pushed again. Until eventually, my body stopped cooperating.
My hip deteriorated to the point where I couldn’t walk without a cane. I was still serving in regional government at the time — carrying responsibility, urgency, and the weight of everyone’s needs — while my own health quietly unraveled.
Hip replacement surgery forced the first pause.
Two head injuries, close together, forced the second.
Even then, I didn’t yet understand what was driving the pattern. I only knew that something had to change.
As I slowly rebuilt my strength, I began experimenting with nervous system practices — tiny shifts that gave me moments of steadiness.
Lockdowns created space to breathe again, and with that space came clarity: I wasn’t “too much” or “not enough.”
I was wired differently.
But it wasn’t until much later, after burning out again while working in our family business, that the full picture clicked into place.
I had spent years supporting my sensitivity — but I had neglected the other half of my wiring. The fire. The drive. The part of me that needs stimulation, novelty, and adventure.
When I finally honoured both traits — my sensitivity and my high sensation seeking — everything changed.
That was the true turning point.
A Balanced Life grew from this realisation: we don’t have to abandon any part of ourselves to feel steady, energised, and whole.
We simply have to understand our wiring — and learn how to live with it, not against it.
Before the Turning Point
There were years when everything in my life slowly unravelled — my health, my energy, and the way I pushed myself through each season. Arthritis took my mobility, burnout took my clarity, and two head injuries finally brought me to a full stop.
I share more of that story in my video, but what matters most is this: those years taught me that sensitivity and intensity weren’t the problem. Pushing through them was.
They became the doorway to everything A Balanced Life stands for today.
What I Believe
I believe sensitivity is an intelligence — one that reveals depth, nuance, and truth long before the rest of the world catches up.
I believe intensity is a form of vitality — the spark that fuels creativity, curiosity, and purpose.
I believe the problem was never your wiring. The problem was a world that never showed you how to honour both sides of it.
I believe the body tells the truth long before the mind is ready to listen. And when we learn to work with our nervous system instead of fighting it, everything begins to soften and strengthen at the same time.
I believe nature restores us because it moves at the pace we were always meant to live at.
And, I believe that balance isn't a destination — it's a rhythm we return to, one moment at a time.
Most of all, I believe you are not too much, and you are not too sensitive.
You are dual-wired — deeply attuned, fiercely alive — and deserving of a life that honours all of you.
A Balanced Life Today
Today, my life is shaped by steadiness, space, and a rhythm that finally feels like my own.
I walk most mornings, not to chase productivity or goals, but to reconnect with my senses, recalibrate my nervous system, and return to myself before the rest of the world arrives.
I choose work that aligns with my energy, relationships that feel mutual and nourishing, and daily patterns that honour both sides of my wiring — the depth and the fire, the sensitivity and the spark.
A Balanced Life isn’t a final destination.
It’s a living, breathing practice — one grounded in nature, rooted in awareness, and shaped by the simple truth that balance is built in the small moments, not the grand gestures.
It’s quieter now.
Clearer.
More intentional.
And it’s a life I’m grateful to walk, one grounded step at a time.
Women who identify as both highly sensitive and high sensation seeking — especially in midlife — looking for steadier energy, nervous system clarity, and self-trust.
My work today is about walking beside women who are wired like me — sensitive, perceptive, deep-feeling, and carrying just as much fire as they do tenderness.
I help you understand your dual wiring, find your steadier rhythm, and build a life that honours your energy instead of working against it.
No fixes.
No forcing.
Just clear guidance, grounded tools, and practical ways to bring yourself back into balance — in your body, your mind, and your daily life.
Through A Balanced Life, I share the practices, insights, and pathways that helped me rebuild my own foundation: gentle nervous system support, nature-based rhythms, and the kind of small shifts that change everything over time.
This is the work that changed my life.
Now, it’s the work I offer to you.
